Ontario Electronic Stewardship

Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) is a not-for-profit industry organization that oversees the responsible reuse and recycling of waste electronics through a program that includes 600 collection sites and numerous other affiliate sites across the province. Each Ontario resident and business is encouraged to safely recycle their end-of-life electronics.

Onward Computer Systems participates in this program and collects the fees on behalf of the OES organisation. You can see these fees on your invoices as a line item with a part number beginning with OES. Money from these fees goes toward running Ontario’s electronics recycling program, which ensures the hazardous components contained in electronics don’t end up in landfill where they could contaminate the environment, and that valuable components such as base and precious metals, plastic and glass are reclaimed and recycled into new products.

As a result of widespread adoption of the program, on August 1, 2011 the OES organisation dropped the fees on many items. You can read more about this program here or download a brochure outlining the fees here.
